Happy Pumpkin – Persimmon

Pattern No. 8495

  • Introduced 2001
  • Discontinued 2008
  • This pattern color, when it was first introduced, was an HLC exclusive.  In 2002 it was advertised as a Betty Crocker™ exclusive however, HLC continued to sell it at their outlet stores and website. 
  • This pattern was applied to Persimmon Fiesta® and can be found in the following shapes: ring handle mug (0453), deep dish pie baker (0487), round candleholders (0488), round salt / pepper sets (0497), 15″ pizza tray (0505) and gusto (a/k/a candy bowl) (0723).
  • In 2003 the 1 quart serving bowl (0471) was added 
  • In 2004 the 2 quart serving bowl (0455) and chop plate (0467) were added to the line.

Somewhere in there the luncheon plate (0465) was added as well, but was never offered for sale by Betty Crocker™. It was only available through HLC outlets or website.

  • There are actually two different designs in the Happy Pumpkin pattern as illustrated to the left.  
  • The first design which is the pumpkin face (pattern no. 8495) was found on the ring handle mug, deep dish pie baker, round candleholders, round salt/pepper set, 15″ pizza tray, chop plate, and luncheon plate.
  • The other design showcasing cats and witch hats (pattern no. researching) was found on the gusto bowl, 1 quart bowl and 2quart bowl.
  • Some collectors refer to this design as “cat and hats”.
  • HLC continued to sell this pattern after Betty Crocker™ closed their mail order catalog in 2006.

Fun Fact – 

  • I’m wondering if HLC was considering putting the Happy Pumpkin (cat and hat) pattern on medium mixing bowls (8-1/2″ diameter) as shown in the illustration to the right.

  • Introduced 2008
  • Discontinued 2017
  • This pattern color was a general release and not exclusive to any particular store except as noted below.
  • This pattern was applied to Tangerine Fiesta®, and can be found in the following shapes:  deep dish pie baker (0487), luncheon plate (0465), chop plate (0467), appetizer plate (1461), tumbler (0446), gusto bowl (0723), salt / pepper shakers (0497), jumbo cup (0149), and 15″ baking / pizza tray (0505).
  • In 2008 the deep dish pie baker was an exclusive to JC Penney’s. They sold them in a set of 2.  
  • If you take the Gusto bowl and sit in on a millennium I vase you can create your own pumpkin person. Dana created the one illustrated to the left.

Pattern No.  researching

  • Introduced 2022
  • This pattern is applied to Poppy Fiesta®, and can be found in the following shapes:  mini disc pitcher (0475), coaster (1607), shot glass (1534) and small heart bowl (0747).
  • This pattern color is an exclusive to the FTCCO. 
  • They introduced the mini pitcher in 2022, added the coasters and shot glass in 2023 and heart bowls in 2025.
