  • These were produced at The Hall China Company, which The Homer Laughlin China Company bought in 2010.
  • Marigold extra-large oval platters where produced between April 1, 2009 through September 1, 2010 (for 75 weeks) in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Fiesta®.
  • It became available in regular production colors after the retirement of this piece in Marigold.
  • Chocolate extra-large platters are known to exist.
  • HLC announced that effective December 2013, that White extra-large platters would be taken out of production.
  • April 2017, HLC took Shamrock out of production and Sage was added to the list in March 2018, then Ivory and Slate in March 2019.
  • Jade appeared on the general retailers order forms and on the first Jade shape sheet (12/2022).  With further research, the Jade platter was discontinued on 3/29/2023 and was omitted on the Jade shape sheet that was released about August 2023.  So were they actually produced, we have not been able to verify that they have been as of 11-19-2024.  If you hear of one, please let us know.

*The information that I have to date (6-2024) shows these platters as being discontinued.  However,  the square baker, rectangle baker and loaf pan were discontinued at this same time, but have been brought back.  So, maybe FTC will do the same with this platter.

  • The illustration to the left shows all four platters. From back to front is the extra-large, large, medium and small platters.
  • The platters are displayed on the same size holder, so that you can see that there is very little difference between the large and medium size platters.

  • In 1988 this platter was redesigned to a flatter bottom surface. The illustration to the left shows both versions. The platter on the left is the early version. You can see how small the base is which measures about 4” across and is deeper. The redesigned version on the right has a base measurement of about 5” and is much shallower. (see further down this page for a side by side comparison photo)
  • Occasionally you will find a “double backstamp”. This is when there is an embossed or incised backstamp and then an ink stamp applied as well to the piece as illustrated to the right.
  • This does not change the value of the piece.
  • Occasionally you will find a molders mark on the back of the small oval platter as shown in the illustration to the left. IE “5”.
  • You will also notice the new backstamp.  The backstamp changed due to the HLC brand being sold and the new company The Fiesta® Tableware Co. was formed.
  • These two illustrations (above and below) show the difference between an Amberstone/Casualstone/Fiesta® Ironstone (left), an early Post 86 (center), and the current Post 86 (right) small oval platters.
  • The Amberstone/Casualstone/Fiesta® Ironstone platter will have a wet foot (glazed) where the Post 86 versions will have a dry foot (unglazed).

Amberstone/Casualstone/Fiesta® Ironstone (left) – measures 9″ length x 6-1/2” wide x 1-18″ height (Amberstone not shown)

Fun Fact –

  • Sometime in 2021 approximately 18 Cobalt Blue 15-1/2″ (+/-) oval platters were found in HLC’s outlets seconds room.  One is illustrated to the left.
  • It is backstamped “Fiesta® HLC USA”.
  • The illustration to the right shows all 5 different size oval platters nesting together.
