It was NOT produced in the following colors – Lilac, Slate, Foundry, Claret, Daffodil and all colors produced after Daffodil (except as noted below)

*HLC discontinued distributing this item to their general retailers on 12/31/2011. However, HLC offered in limited quantities Paprika, Flamingo, Lapis, Poppy, Mulberry, Meadow, Butterscotch, Twilight, Peony, Jade, Sky and Linen carafes through their retail outlet stores and website.

  • It is believed that about 24 Lilac carafes were produced. One sold on eBay in April 2017 for $1,701.00 another sold at Strawser Auction in June 2021 for $10,000.00 + buyers premium.  However, in November 2022 one more sold for only $3,000.00 + the buyers premium. 
  • Chocolate carafes were produced in very limited quantities and sold at HLC’s retail outlet stores.  
  • Each year, since 1995, the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association (ELHSAA) holds a yearly auction which “lends support to the Alumni Association/Education & Scholarship Fund”.
  • The Homer Laughlin China Company (1995-2010), The Hall China Company (1995-2010), W.C. Bunting Co. (1999-to present) and the W.C. Bunting Co./Commercial Decal of Ohio, Inc. companies (2016-2017), all support the organization by donating 12 or 24 limited edition pieces for ELHSAA to auction off.
  • Below is a list of the quantity and colors that were donated in this specific piece.
  • 24 – Sapphire decorated carafes were donated in 1997 as illustrated to the right. (Photo courtesy of Strawser Auctions)
  • 12 – Sage carafes were donated in June 2016
  • Crystalline pieces were donated to the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association for their June 17, 2001 auction. According to the Certificate of Authenticity that was issued for each piece, these donated pieces were the “remaining pieces from the glaze experiments that were conducted in the Homer Laughlin laboratory in early 2001”.
  • There were seven Crystalline carafes donated. There were five in the Blue and two in the Brown Crystalline glaze.

  • In the two illustrations to either side, you can see the difference between the Post 86 (right) and Vintage (left) carafes.
  • The Vintage has a distinctive pedestal style foot and a corked stopper/lid. The Post 86 did not come with a stopper/lid.

Vintage – measures 7-1/8″ wide with handle (6-1/8″ diameter) x 9-1/4″ height with lid (8-1/4″ without lid).
