  • This bowl is not a Fiesta® item. However, they were produced in Post 86 and Vintage Fiesta® glazes, so I felt it needed to be included.
  • This bowl was an exclusive only to Betty Crocker.
  • The original 1941 Betty bowl was introduced on a Bisquick box and were only produced in Vintage Fiesta® Turquoise or Harlequin Yellow glazes.
  • Betty bowls without backstamps were sold as second quality bowls through HLC’s factory outlet stores.

  • The illustration on the right shows Vintage Betty bowls (left) will have a glazed foot (wet foot) where the Post 86 has an unglazed foot (dry foot).
  • The reissued bowl was introduced at the 2002 Homer Laughlin China Collectors Association (HLCCA) Conference and has a totally different backstamp than the Vintage bowl.
  • You can find the Post 86 backstamp with either Black or White lettering as shown in these two illustrations.
  • Betty Crocker® had the Vintage bowls produced by three different manufacturers.
  • To help you distinguish between the manufacturers, below, you will see the different backstamps.
  • Note how the “Betty Crocker” signatures differ. See how the “B” and “C” are different?
  • If you want an HLC made Betty bowl, you will want the backstamp that is illustrated to the left.
  • HLC had an ink backstamp. The “B” is open at the base and slants a little to the left.

Vintage HLC bowl – measures 8-1/2” diameter x 2-3/4” height.

  • Red Wing had two different backstamps. An ink backstamp (left) and an incised one (right).
  • The “B” is not connected to the other letters.
  • Also, note how the “C” does not have the little loop at the top. (Photos courtesy of Steve Beals)

  • Gladding-McBean had an ink backstamp as illustrated to the right.
  • The “B” is closed at the base and slants to the right and connects with the other letters. (Photo courtesy of Steve Beals)
  • Becky Turner wrote a great article about the Betty bowls in the Homer Laughlin China Collectors Association (HLCCA) quarterly club magazine, The Dish (Vol. 5 No 2, Winter 2002).

Fun Fact –

  • The Betty bowl that is illustrated to the left was produced by HLC for The Betty Crocker Catalog,   75 Years of Loyalty – 1931-2006.  This bowl sold at Strawser Auctions in June 2021 for $85.00 + buyers premium.
  • To my knowledge it was only produced in the Scarlet glaze.
