  • Even though these plates had been discontinued to general retailers, HLC still sold this plate to their food service customers in the select colors of Turquoise, Sunflower, Shamrock, Scarlet, Lemongrass, Lapis and possibly Tangerine. So, customers were not surprised when they found some seconds or overruns in the seconds room at HLC’s retail outlet stores.
  • Chocolate bread and butter plates were produced for HLC’s food service customers and the over runs were sold at HLC’s retail outlet stores and website.
  • Daffodil bread and butter plates were sold at FTC’s factory retail outlet store in November 2020.
  • Sky bread and butter plates were sold at FTC’s factory retail outlet store during the FTCCO conference in May 2024 and their website.
  • There are known bread and butter plates glazed in the Aqua glaze from FTC’s Terrace dinnerware line.

  • At one point HLC packaged 4 bread and butter plates for Macy’s to sell as a set.  There was not a special SKU made for this set.  It was just reference as “463(color number)M.
  • Illustrated to the right is an Evergreen set.
  • The illustration to the left shows that Vintage bread & butter plates (top row), along with the Amberstone/Casualstone B&B plates, will have a wet foot (glazed) where the Post 86 bread & butter plate (bottom) will have a dry foot (unglazed).
  • Occasionally you will find Vintage and Post 86 bread & butter plates without a backstamp.
  • A Vintage bread & butter without a backstamp is shown in the top right corner.

  • Clear glazed salad plates are known to exist. Instead of applying a color glaze, HLC will sometimes apply clear glaze to the bisque piece to obtain more of a natural/neutral look.
  • Raspberry glazed salad plates are known to exist.
  • The illustration to the left shows two Post 86 salad plates with a dry foot (unglazed). The one on the left does not have a backstamp where the one on the right does.
  • The lack of a backstamp does not change the value of the plate and is more common than you might think.
  • The illustration to the right shows three different vintage salad plates. The top plate has fewer rings (five) inside the wet foot glazed) area than the other two. As for the others, the plate on the bottom left has six rings and a smaller center. The yellow version center is larger by about ¼ inch and has six rings as well. I’m pretty sure there are more versions out there, but you get the idea of how they can vary.
  • The illustration to the left shows a Vintage salad plate (left) and a Fiesta® Ironstone salad plate (right). The Amberstone/Casualstone/Fiesta® Ironstone salad plates will not have a backstamp.
  • The two underside outer rim rings are thicker on the Vintage salad plate than the Amberstone/Casualstone/Fiesta® Ironstone salad plates.

  • The illustration to the right shows all five round classic rim plates. From left to right is the bread & butter, salad, luncheon, dinner, chop plates. They nest together beautifully.
  • Occasionally, even though a color has been discontinued or retired, HLC will produce something in that color at a later time. A good example is when some salad (0464) and dinner plates were produced in third quarter of 2014 (CCCC) in the retired color Marigold (retired 9/2012). According to Dave Conley, “When the Marigold 75th Anniversary color was retired after 75 weeks production, we were left with a small amount of inventory. Of course, the inventory was not in balance and we had to make a small number of plates … to balance the inventory into place settings.” (Photo courtesy of Diane Galante)
  • There are numerous ways to tell the difference between Post 86 (right) and Vintage (left) dinner plates. First, the Post 86 will have a dry foot (unglazed) and the Vintage will have a wet foot (glazed). Another way to tell the difference between the two plates (beside the backstamps) is by the underside outer rings. The Post 86 rings are just thin line rings, you can barely feel them. The Vintage are thick almost embossed style rings and you can feel the thick rings. It is not uncommon for Vintage plates to not have a backstamp as shown in the illustration to the right.
  • The illustration to the left shows a Fiesta® Ironstone (left) Vintage (center) and Amberstone (right) dinner plate. The Fiesta® Ironstone/Casualstone plate will not have rings on the outer edge of the plate like the Vintage and Amberstone dinner plates have.

Vintage – measures 10-1/2″ diameter x 3/4” height
Casualstone/Fiesta® Ironstone – measures 10-1/8” diameter x 1” height (no backstamp)
Amberstone – measures 10-7/16” diameter x 3/4” height (Casualstone not shown)
Note: The Amberstone/Casualstone have an underglaze decoration on the front of the plates.

  • In March 2019, Shamrock, Ivory, and Slate were taken out of the production line up.
  • With the introduction of Twilight in 2021 – FTC added Cobalt Blue to the out of production line up.

  • In the 8-8-2023 shape sheet FTC notes that this set would only be produced in the following colors – White, Turquoise, Scarlet, Lapis, Daffodil, Peony, and Jade.

  • The original production number for the chop plate was 0710 as illustrated to the left. It was later changed to 0467.
  • On Post 86 chop plates, you will find different back stamps. Some of the ink stamps will not say “lead-free” as shown on this Apricot chop plate to the left. The ones without “lead-free” on the backstamp, were produced when Post 86 Fiesta® was first released in 1986. However, all Post 86 Fiesta® is lead-free even if not marked accordingly.
  • The illustration to the right shows the comparison between Post 86 and Vintage chop plates. From left to right is the Vintage 15”, Vintage 13” and Post 86 11-3/4” chop plates.
  • The illustration to the left shows the Vintage 15” (left) and Vintage 13” (top right) have a wet foot (glazed) while the Post 86 (bottom right) has a dry foot (unglazed). It also shows the Vintage 13” chop plate does not have a backstamp which is not uncommon.

Vintage 13” – measures 12-1/2” diameter x 1-1/8” height
Vintage 15” – measures 14-1/4” diameter x 1-1/8” height.

  • The Vintage chop plates have two different styled wet feet (glazed) as shown in the  illustration to the right. The chop plate on the left shows that there is a double foot and does not have a backstamp. The chop plate on the right only has a single foot.
  • The illustration to the left shows a Post 86 chop plate (front) with an Amberstone 13” chop plate (back).
  • Amberstone/Casualstone plates have an underglaze decoration on the front of the plates.

Amberstone/Casualstone – measures 12-3/8″ diameter (Casualstone not shown)
