  • Other collectors/retailers have referenced this bowl as a small cereal bowl.

  • This is one of five of the straight sided bowls. I refer to this bowl as the number 1 of the 5 bowls. Number 1 is this bowl, number 2 the medium bowl, number 3 the companion bowl, number 4 the large bowl and number 5 the ex-large bowl.
  • The illustration to the left shows all five bowls starting with number 1 on the inside.
  • You will notice that bowl 3 is hard to see.  The group illustration at the top of this page shows the bowls in the same order and you can see the companion bowl (#3) better.
  • The illustration to the right compares vintage fruit bowls (top two bowls) and a Post 86 small bowl.
  • Beginning in the early 1950’s, HLC started wiping the glaze from the foot of various bowls. This was done for time/labor savings, having changed from placing the ware on sagger pins to shelves through the kiln. As a result, you will find some Vintage fruit bowls with a dry foot (unglazed – top right) and some with a wet foot (glazed – top left). However, you will only find sagger pin marks, which can be found around the underside of the bowls rim, on the wet foot bowls.
  • Post 86 small bowls (front center) will have a dry foot.
  • The illustration to the left shows Vintage fruit bowls.
  • Vintage bowls (front) have a wider more prominent rim than the Post 86 bowl (back)

Vintage 4-3/4″ fruit bowl measures – 4-13/16″ diameter x 1-1/2 height (front left)
Vintage 5-1/2″ fruit bowl measures – 5-9/16″ diameter x 1-11/16″ height (front right)
