  • These were produced at The Hall China Company, which The Homer Laughlin China Company bought in 2010.
  • This mug was exclusive to Kohl’s since it’s introduction but was also available at the HLC retail outlet stores.
  • Due to the high demand for these mugs, HLC changed the way they were produced. The original, heavier mug is cast* (Version 1) with the handles. You can tell by the two dimples inside the mug.
The newer, lighter bodied mug is pressed** (Versions 2 and 3), and the handles are hand applied (hence no dimples).
  • The illustration to the right shows the dimples (left) and no dimples (right).

* Cast – to produce shapes by pouring fluid clay into molds.
** Pressed (ram pressed) – is a machine that is used to press clay into molded shapes.

  • The illustration to the left shows the two different base styles of the latte mugs. Version 1 (left) base is straight and in line with the middle section of the mug. Version 2 (right) base slants slightly inward from the middle section of the mug to the last ring detail and then goes straight down.
  • The illustration to the right, shows the difference between the upper and lower ring details of the three versions of the latte mug. Version 1 (left) shows the original ring details. Version 2 (center) the upper rings were changed as well as at the base. Version 3 (right) the upper ring details of the mug were changed back to Version 1’s design but kept the same base detail as Version 2.
  • The backstamp changed to an incised backstamp when they redesigned version 2.  Version 3 also has an incised backstamp.

Fun Fact –

  • Around January 2022 handless latte mugs showed up in FTC’s seconds room. The only colors I’ve been able to verify that exist are Poppy and Sunflower as shown in the illustration to the left.
